| How Body Wraps Work Body wraps work through several mechanisms, by absorbing the fluids surrounding the fat and skin cells, by chemically stimulating the fat cells to empty out their contents and by compacting those cells together mechanically. Absorption in generally achieved by the use of clays or plant materials that are known to draw fluids and toxins out of the skin. In my experience, the most effective of these are the cosmetic clays. Chemically stimulating the fat cells to empty their contents is achieved by the use of caffeine-related chemicals - aminophylline and theophylline found in many plant extracts, and by the stimulation of the adrenoreceptors on the fat cells. Compaction is achieved by tightly wrapping the body so that cells are encouraged to bind closer together to fill the empty spaces left by the now-absent fluids. The fluids surrounding the fat and skin cells are called 'interstitial fluids' and these fluids carry toxins and metabolic wastes from the cells and into the blood stream or lymph system for removal. Exposure to toxins and a sedentary lifestyles can slow this process of detoxification and result in water retention, toxic buildup and overload of the lymph system. |

| One great way to stimulate and accelerate this process is a body wrap, and this can result in the loss of several inches, excess water weight, and metabolism-slowing toxins and wastes. Other benefits can include tighter and more youthful skin, and relief from sore muscles and joints, depending on the ingredients used in the wraps.
Body wrapping is not new and the process has been around since ancient Egypt. It's currently enjoying a recent revival in many beauty and health spas. They can be extremely costly at your local beauty spa, especially considering that most salons will recommend 10-12 subsequent wraps for optimal results. Although a professional is trained in wrapping techniques, and may be able to obtain industry-grade ingredients and supplies that are not available to the home-wrapper, body wraps are a beauty treatment certainly worth replicating at home. The secret is to get a little help with the wrap from a trusted friend (preferably someone who won't laugh at you in your underwear). Adequate compression is key to a successful body wrap, and it's often difficult to get your own wrap cloths tight enough to achieve good compression, especially around the waist and ribcage.I speak from experience. There are a variety of ingredients that can be used in a body wrap, but rather than present you with an extensive list upfront, at this point, I thinks it's far more practical to use ingredients that are widely used in this website for other formulas. It's far cheaper and simpler to buy fewer items in larger quantities than it is to buy many, many bottles of different ingredients that all perform basically the same action. Rather than provide you with several dozen different recipes for wraps with several dozen possible ingredients, what follows is a simple and effective body wrap protocol that can be easily followed at home. |
