| KELP is commonly known as seaweed and is a rich source of natural vitamins, and more specifically minerals - over 30 - including the essential trace minerals. Primary components of kelp are algin carrageenan, iodine, potassium, bromine, histamine and vitamins B-2 and C. Kelp promotes healthy glandular function, especially that of the thyroid, which controls metabolism. Kelp contains algin, a plant fiber than absorbs toxins, specifically heavy metals, and helps to pass them through the digestive system. The iodine in kelp is used by the body to manufacture thyroxine - the hormone that stimulates the burning of fat stores for energy, and for the replication of new healthy cells. This increased thyroxine lowers serum cholesterol by enabling the mitochondrial processing of cholesterol into hormones and cell structures. CAYENNE Cayenne has been used as medicine for centuries. It is considered helpful for conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, including stomach aches and gas and is also used as a circulatory tonic to improve blood flow and circulation to the extremities and to sore and overused muscles. Cayenne contains a resinous and pungent substance known as capsaicin. FENNEL The active components of fennel, terpenoid anethole, are found in the volatile oil of the seeds. Anethole and other terpenoids inhibit spasms in smooth muscles, such as those in the intestinal tract, and this is thought to cause fennel's appetite suppressant effect. Fennel is also a safe and mild diuretic and increases the production of bile (and hence enhances the proper digestion of dietary fats). In addition to these diet-enhancing properties, it makes a very good-tasting tea that sweetens the breath. GINKGO BILOBA The medicinal use of ginkgo can be traced back almost 5,000 years in Chinese herbal medicine. The medical benefits of Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) are attributed primarily to two groups of active components - ginkgo flavone glycosides and terpene lactones. The terpene lactones are associated with increasing circulation. GBE regulates the tone and elasticity of blood vessels*,making circulation more efficient.** An increase in blood flow and circulation is important to women with heavy deposits of estrogenic fat - generally in the lower body, where circulation and cellular metabolism are poor.
